About us
Action in Manchester started at the University of Manchester on September 2006 and in the following year the Action Palestine at the Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) was setup.
At University of Manchester, Action Palestine has been very successful at achieving its aim of raising awareness and support for the Palestinian cause. We have held numerous numbers of well attended exciting events including talks by renowned speakers, as well as activists from key organizations which are working on the ground in Palestine.
Action Palestine was instrumental in getting the Students’ Union twinning with An-Najah University Students’ council in March 2007. And later in November 2007 when the twinning came under attack Action Palestine was able to build a broad campaign to “defend our twinning”. The campaign was very successful and the attack was put down with a huge majority vote in the largest attended General Meeting in over a decade.
Through our campaign Action Palestine has developed good links with other societies on campus, including: Fair Trade, Peoples Society, Stop the War, the Arab Society, the Islamic Society, Unite Against Fascism, Afro-Caribbean Society, Love Music Hate Racism and Black Students Campaign.
At MMU Action Palestine has been able to organise a good number of exciting events, including talks by renowned speakers, including: Ilane pappe and Khaled Mudalal. Our events have generated lots of interest on campus and have helped educate the student population about the struggle of Palestine people.
